Home // NDIS Information & Resources
Navigating NDIS information can sometimes feel overwhelming, especially when trying to understand how Behaviour Support fits within a participant’s plan. This page brings together general information and links to official resources to help participants, families, and support networks access reliable, up‑to‑date guidance.
NDIS Behaviour Support Requirements
We follow all NDIS Quality and Safeguards Commission guidelines, including reporting, restrictive practice requirements, and collaborative planning.
Restrictive Practices
We work to reduce and eliminate restrictive practices through positive, proactive strategies.
Participant Rights
Every person has the right to choice, dignity, cultural respect, and safe, evidence-based support.
The National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) provides funding and support to eligible people with permanent and significant disability. Its purpose is to help participants access the supports they need to pursue their goals and participate in everyday life.
Eligibility, funding, and plan details are individual to each participant and determined by the National Disability Insurance Agency (NDIA). For accurate information about eligibility, applying for the NDIS, or understanding funding, it is best to refer directly to official NDIS sources.
Specialist Behaviour Support focuses on understanding behaviours of concern within the context of a person’s life, rather than viewing the behaviour in isolation. Strategies developed through this process may help to:

Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) is a person‑centred, evidence‑informed approach used within Specialist Behaviour Support. PBS considers the broader factors influencing behaviour, including:
Behaviours of concern are often shaped by multiple factors, and understanding this complexity is central to the PBS approach.
A Behaviour Support Plan (BSP) is a document developed to guide the support provided to a participant. It is informed by assessment and individual needs, and may include proactive strategies, skill-building approaches, and practical guidance for support teams.
BSPs are reviewed and updated as circumstances, needs, or goals change, helping ensure the support remains relevant, consistent, and effective.
Restrictive practices are actions that limit the rights or freedom of movement of a person with disability and are regulated under the NDIS.
The NDIS Quality and Safeguards Commission oversees their use, including authorisation and reporting requirements, which may vary by individual circumstances and state or territory.
Positive Behaviour Support focuses on understanding behaviours of concern and reducing reliance on restrictive practices where possible. As requirements can vary, refer to official Commission resources for current guidance.
The NDIS Quality and Safeguards Commission promotes the quality and safety of NDIS supports and services. It sets requirements for providers and practitioners working in Behaviour Support and regulates the use of restrictive practices.
YMT Care is led by a Registered Behaviour Support Practitioner under the NDIS Quality and Safeguards Commission, but is not part of, and does not represent, the Commission.
